This project established digital, color orthoimagery for the Village of Northfield, Illinois as part of the Illinois GIS Consortium (ILGISC).
<DIV STYLE="text-align:Left;"><DIV><DIV><P><SPAN>Ayres Associates provided Village of Northfield, Illinois with digital, color orthoimagery services in 2017 as part of ILGISC. The aerial imagery was collected on March 3rd using a Leica DMC III sensor mounted in a fixed-wing aircraft. Aerial imagery was collected to support 0.25 foot ground sample distance (GSD) orthoimagery to meet National Map Accuracy Standards horizontal accuracy specifications at 1" = 50' map scale. The horizontal accuracy meets or exceeds 1.0 foot RMSE using the National Standard for Spatial Data Accuracy (NSSDA) standards. Resultant orthoimagery was rectified to a DEM created from existing LiDAR data. Orthoimagery was delivered in PLSS section GeoTiff and MrSID tiles and a project-wide MrSID mosaic. The orthoimagery was delivered according to a four section tile schematic. Images were color corrected to match adjacent flight lines. The resulting imagery was globally tilted in terms of contrast and color to form a radiometrically consistent orthophoto mosaic.
These data cover the entirety of the 2017 ILGISC Village of Northfield Orthophotography Initiative.
The imagery was collected using a Leica DMC III at 7cm GSD. Image quality was verified during the post flight review phase. Factors considered during this review included, but were not limited to, the presence of cloud cover, contrails, light conditions and sun flare. A rigorous Aerotriangulation process was performed and supplemented by existing ground control points. The imagery was mosaicked using manual seamlines generation and tone/color balanced to project-wide consistency. PLSS section RGBI tiles were extracted from the mosaic and each individual tile was reviewed for artifacts and anomalies and adjusted as part of quality control procedures. The images were reviewed for rectification problems such as bridge displacements and seamlines issues caused by the underlying digital elevation model. When necessary, local corrections to the imagery were performed to minimize such effects.
